Question #1: I think I'm like you; I'd rather have more subscribers than comments. Even though comments are great, I think I'd be happier knowing people enjoy my story enough to keep reading.

Question #2: I write more original fics than fanfiction, and I think I might like reading original fic more than fanfiction. Sometimes I feel like reading fanfiction can be a little restricting for me - because I can only read fics of things I'm familiar with; whenever I read fanfiction outside of fandoms I'm familiar with, I start to feel a little lost or like I'm missing a lot of inside stuff. But with original fiction, I know that I'm kind of at the same place as all the other readers.

I think I agree with the user below. It depends on the comment given, but I tend to like having subscribers more than comments. It may get a little frustrating when you have two comments and a hundred subscribers, but at least you know you're doing something right to gain readers.

As for original or fanfiction, why not have both? I love reading both fanfiction and original that I just can't choose.

I think it depends on the comment, for me. I'd rather have a detailed comment about what I'm doing right and wrong over a subscriber, but I'd rather have a subscriber over a "oh, this is cool" comment. At least either way, I know I'm doing something right in some way. I think if I were to choose though, I prefer detailed comments over everything.

Again, with the other question, it depends for me. I adore original fiction, because I can get really invested in the characters but if I know a fandom and the story is well-written, I can get really into a fanfiction in the same way I'd get into an original fiction. In terms of writing, I find it easier to write original fiction because I'm awful at keeping characters in character when it comes to fanfiction writing. You don't have any preconceived notions of the characters when you go to write an original fiction, so people aren't going to slate you for making a mess of characterisation or anything like that. I think in that respect, I prefer originals. Nothing beats reading a really well-written fanfic thouh. I started with those on here and they hold a place dear to my heart.

I care more about comments vs. subscribers. Because sometimes people don't subscribe but think "wow, I liked x about this story, let me comment" while a longtime subscriber, though they do read updates (now this is more my style of subscribing---I don't comment after every chapter update) may not comment at all. If that makes sense. . .but yeah, that's what I think. Plus, I write one shots or short stories sometimes and I don't expect people to subscribe to it, so, naturally the comments often outnumber the subscriber count.

I prefer original fiction in terms of the fandoms making me feel like an outsider. Because as a fanfic and original fic writer, I know that regardless, people will alienated by fan fiction even if the details make it easy to follow along if you're not in the fandom. Fandom-only jokes / info typically creates that "outsider / insider" label whether you intend for it to or not. It's dependent on the complexity of the fic and fandom, as well as the reader, how much of that "outsider / insider" stereotype is able to affect the overall experience of reading it. I hope that makes sense. Think But yeah, I adore both, but original fiction is what I lean more towards in terms of searching for and writing. . .fan fiction writing, to me, ultimately helps me to develop my own characters and plot lines in original fiction. It's more of a practice session, if you will. But not everyone shares that opinion which is 100% fine by me.

As much as I love getting a comment on a story, I'd prefer the subscribers. If everyone is commenting but not subscribing then they're obviously not enjoying the story enough to stick around.

I prefer original fiction. I have no real reason behind it, and I have written and read fan-fiction and still continue to read it. I guess I just don't feel that comfortable writing it, and so I don't feel that comfortable reading it. I prefer fan-fiction about fictional things, rather than real people.
