I "celebrate" Thanksgiving when I am forced to. First off, I am a vegetarian in a non-vegetarian household and extended family. You can only imagine how many dishes I am restricted to when I actually do go to someone's house for dinner. I can eat their balsamic carrots and the potatoes. That's about it. Also, it is no longer Black Friday. Half of my relatives don't even eat the traditional dinner on Thanksgiving because they're getting ready to start their Black Friday shopping at like 5/6 PM Thanksgiving.

And personally, I believe the reason Christmas is "more important" than Thanksgiving (I don't value either holiday) is because Christmas is no longer a day to celebrate but to spend money. It's just another materialistic "holiday". It is the ultimate materialistic holiday, actually. Just in general, I'm not saying everyone views it like that. And Thanksgiving is generally about food. I've never heard of anyone exchanging gifts then lol

@ Lucasluc Sorry but no. Eating a lot of food and being "thankful" (which you should always be always, you shouldn't need a holiday to realize you maybe should be glad you have anything at all in a country with this many issues) isn't a "greater good" when literally millions of Native American people are dead, they're still unfairly stereotyped, they don't get to portray themselves in most television and movies, and people think it's okay to culturally appropriate them.

As I said in my earlier comment. The greatest things in life originate through chaos. Anything bad in this would can be turned into greater good.

But is that really why people won't celebrate it? I thought it was about being thankful for what you have.

It's not that people don't care. It's that Christmas is the holiday retailers make their money off of. So they put their stuff out early, which makes consumers buy it early, which in turn causes them to put it up earlier.

Not everyone is like that though, and actually, almost every client at my work was complaining about early Christmas stuff.

It's a holiday based around the persecution of murder of Native Americans is definitely a part of it. A lot of people are becoming more socially conscious and realizing we shouldn't celebrate things like that.
^^^ This as well, there are quite a few peple in my town who share this view, although, there are even more who steadfastly oppose it.

As with all things, there are going to be extremes.

I think Thanksgiving is a lovely day. It's the only holiday that gives you an excuse to pig out and get fat without anyone questioning you.

That's a very good point. It's not that hard to tell what people are thinking about these days; especially when it comes to the holidays.

Times and society has changed and people nowadays don't believe in any holiday really. Sure they're are thousands of people who celebrate these holidays but years ago it used I be millions. Because we love in a chaotic society, people no longer believe in following rules. They believe in whatever they want to and sometimes big or small things happen to ruin a person'a view on these special holidays altogether. People no longer understand the spiritual representation of holidays, thy believe in the logic and neutral knowledge of what they think these holidays are really about. Many people believe Christmas and Thanksgiving are horrible because of their origins but "The greatest things in life original through chaos."
