It is very hard to get rid of things like that. I had an emtionally abusive ex whose writings/gifts I held on to forever, and those things helped him exhibit his control over me even after we were broken up, because I still thought about him. I still held on to his false promise that we would get back together and everything would be better.

But everything he did was for him, and he ended up causing me nothing but pain, and spiralling the depression that I was already in.

Learning t let go of bad people who were once a big part of our lives takes time. When and how you get rid of his writings is up to you. But it is extremely relieving to do so, even though you may feel like you can't do it beforehand.

Get rid of it when it feels right, but I would encourage you to do it as soon as you feel it is right. Don't keep it around, even if the smallest voice in you tells you to. You are important and worth it and you don't deserve to be tied to the horrible things.
