As a kind of side note, when I was eating dinner about an hour after writing this, there was another news report of a person that got killed in a hit and run accident in the area. However, they were on the sidewalk. The blame is not always on jaywalkers around here, sometimes it is just that people are awful drivers in Cali, but there have been a lot of cases lately that have been because pedestrians have been ignoring crosswalks.

I think it's understandable to jaywalk across side streets and small streets, because there aren't as many cars to worry about. The problem that I have is that, around here, people do it on the main roads. And this is California, a lot of drivers don't obey the speed and go ten over. And cops seem more worried about speeding drivers than they are of people walking across busy streets that people are going 30-50 miles per hour down. It's getting extremely out of hand, because people think that there is no repercussion for their actions.

I jaywalk on side streets, but never on main roads. Even then, I always make sure that the approaching car, if any, doesn't have to slow down to let me cross. D:

But I've seen cops around here give out tickets to jaywalkers when they see them walking across the main roads because of the higher speeds and volume of traffic. I understand your frustration though... I've had to yield to jaywalkers many times when I roll down the road on the way to work. :|
