He can think what he wants but I still don't get why some people react like he did and feel the need to express these forward, offensive opinions. Does it boost their ego or something?
Life can mean different things and have different worth to different people, it's just a shame that sometimes people openly shed their opinion off on someone without really considering the listener's feelings, own thoughts and opinions, or even the tone or behaviour used to express said opinion.
At the end of the day, this guy doesn't sound like someone you're particularly close with so I'd personally hold on to the satisfaction that the guy could babble on about complete hogwash and I'd walk away knowing that I have absolutely nothing to prove to him. Frankly, his opinion doesn't matter.
Good luck with your studies! Seems to me like you've got everything in good perspective in terms of settling down when you're ready. Easier said than done but try not to let it get to you too much - in fact, you can even turn this around by reasoning that you must be a pretty cool person for him to take so much interest in your life.
