    @ good girl;

Oh I already know I'm being just a bit too picky lol
And like you said, I do get the default layout is a bit harsh since I've read plenty in the dark, which is usually while my "default" is a monochrome color scheme with usually just a banner.

    @ Yami Hina

I've noticed since I follow you, that you do like a lot of the same fandoms as me though. For instance, I absolutely adore Yu-Gi-Oh. I'm not big into the newer ones except maybe 5D but I do love that show still. And as I mentioned to good girl; I totally get the default layout kinda thing. I'm not one who particularly likes a stark white screen in my face while reading either.

i don't think you're being finicky. I really feel you on the less popular fandom thing. I write for some unpopular/obscure fandoms too and it really does suck not having other people to fan girl about it on here. But to me, I think a lot of people don't read stories is because they're afraid to break out of thier comfort zone and read something new... well that's one reason. Another reason is that certain stories aren't their cup of teas or whatnot. I also like making layouts and simple layouts are the best when you don't want to spend too much time on making a fancy layout. I tend to make simple layouts until i either feel like making a fancier layout or someone makes me a banner. ^^ Generally, layouts don't bother me though the default layout can be a but hard on the eyes when you're tired or trying to read in the dark (like good girl said).

Similar to good girl;, I think layout making is therapeutic for me. I mainly do it because of that. I have to be honest and say that I am picky when it comes to story layouts and reading stories. But the main thing, like good girl; said, is for the layout to be readable. Simplicity is great.

The default layout is good on the mobile site though - I like it a lot haha OMGYES

Just a reminder if you do make your own layout: it's not allowed in Mibba to have unreadable texts in layout (ex. black bg with grey font) Cute

Honestly I read stories mostly using the default layout even if I DO like someone's layout because it's consistent. And on mobile, you can't see layouts anyway. I still enjoy making them but most of mine are pretty simple.

I have so many stories posted here for Placebo that it makes the fandom look quite large when in reality, it's just me and a couple of other older fics by others haha. I understand what you mean though. Why bother posting if no one's reading? It can be hard to keep going with it.

It's understandable, but I think you're being a little finicky. lol. A story layout doesn't have to go all out, it should just be readable. That's the main thing I don't like when I go to a story and I can't read it. And the default layout for me can be hard to read at times. Especially at night cause it's just, for me, a little rough on the eyes (as in too bright) and there isn't a nighttime version of the layout so it's like "tough luck."

I like doing my layouts for me. I like graphic design and designing the layouts are therapeutic for me in a way lol. They're fun and I spend a lot of time on them, but they in no way make up or compromise my writing. You can have a BEAUTIFUL layout and a less than pretty story...I'm not gonna stay for the story just cause the layout is pretty. In fact, it's the opposite. I'll stay if the story is good, but the layout is something found in the stocks or even if I have to deal with the default (I'll just put the story on reader mode since I have a mac) or basic.

The layouts are a supplement. As long as they're readable, people are gonna stay if the story seems good to them.

So don't fret over them. Post something if you wanna post something.

Edit: And if you want a pretty layout but don't feel like spending time on it and focusing on other things, someone can make it for you in a very short period of time. Like an hour or less. There are a million ultra-talented graphic artist on here who ADORE making layouts for people who can't, don't, and won't make layouts for reasons just like yours. c:

You don't have to have a story layout but for me; I would rather read a story with a layout then just the default.
Only because I'm picky about how the story is written.
Like; I cant read a paragraph if all the words are jumbled together.
I like to read in a format like how I'm typing right now.
I normally don't read stories without layouts only due to how they're usually formatted.
    That's just me though.
