I mean in fictional writing. Even with a cool idea, it needs emotion to be powerful.

I agree with all of these except

"Writing is pointless if it's not emotional in some way."

No, there are more purposes to writing than that. Inform, persuade, entertain, you probably know. I have a few stories in writing just because they're cool ideas, and I have other stories that are emotional and allegorical and metaphorical.

If you actually mean that if you're writing characters without emotions, then I agree.

This is so true! I agree in everything especially the reading part. Reading and writing are the two skills that come hand in hand together. For someone who isn't a native English speaker, reading has taught me a lot on how to construct English sentences and how to use certain words in the right context. And I also hate it when it's obvious the authors are too lazy to be imaginative and don't provide enough descriptions for the readers. Like it's not point to write if you can't paint what you have in mind for your readers, you know.

This entire blog...... I have a story i've been writing for more than ten years and it's still no where close to being done. As a matter of fact, it's been through so many rough drafts and changes but I still want to publish it one day.

I totally agree with most of these.
The one I see everywhere is:

    "- You do not read.
Honestly, how can you expect to be a good writer if you're not well read? How do you expect to be good if you don't even know what's been written yet?"

I don't read a whole lot. Most of what I read isn't published work. In fact, I haven't finished reading a published book in like, 3 years or something ridiculous. But, I don't write to be published so I don't need to know what kinds of things are out there and the quality of work. I just enjoy it, simple as that :) I think there is still a point in me writing, but perhaps it would be pointless trying to get published if I have no interest in what is already out there.

Wow, I'm so glad that this helped you! I didn't expect anyone else to relate, and it means a lot to know that other people can get something out of this. I'm so happy I could help and I wish you all the luck in fulfilling your literary aspirations!

    @ daisy chains.

I will definitely be reading this blog for a long time to come. You've opened my eyes to why I started writing in the first place, and I really needed that reminder. Thank you.

This has really opened my eyes to my writing. Most of the stuff I put on here is my practice and my fun. Fanfiction is my fun. My real stuff stay in a folder. A book I'm writing and that I have been writing for a while, stays in there as well. I'm shy about my original work. My whole soul is into it and your blog is 100% on point. I may read this over and over.
