"Adopting" a Story? - Comments

  • I've adopted two of my stories from my best friend. She comes up with the best ideas! When she struggles with the plot, I offer help and one time I asked if I could continue the story. She accepted and I gave her credit for it. The second one she came up with the idea and asked me to help her so she keep motivated to write and help when she gets stuck. Now both our lives are chaotic and, we only update when we can. But you definitely can adopt a story.

    It was awesome. You can think of it as a co-write where the first half of the story is written by someone else and the rest will be written by you.

    Nope, the original owner was really kind and she still remains as an author of the story. She checks how the story goes and we already talked about what she wanted for the story and what limits I had. We had a test run where I wrote a chapter to see if I could get into it as much as I liked it and it worked.

    It all deppends on what the original author wants.

  • If the idea really appeals to me, I would adopt a story, but it takes a lot to interest me nowadays seeing as how I haven't been able to write anything in the past year, which is sad....

    Yes! A few people have commented and told me! I think it's a great idea!! Very Happy
    I do have a question, since you've adopted a story before. How was your experience? Was there anything you would've changed about any part of the adoption?

    Thanks for commenting!!

  • @ Xia;
    NICE!! Totally looking forward to that one!! I LOVE Catch Me!! You were saying you were going to make some changes to that. I'm sure whatever you do, it would be great! Mr. Green
    Good luck and have fun!!

  • Stories can be adopted and there is a thread in the forums about it. I adopted one around a year ago.

  • I fall in love way to hard and way to fast 28th my stories to part with them. Even the ones that suck because all of my emotions go into my writing. It's my outlet. I do think that it is a good idea though for people who aren't hoarders with their stories like me.

  • This would be a really cool thing to do! It would be like the contest revivals, but for stories!

  • I know Facepalm I'm always beating myself up. But if it makes you feel any better, my top New Years Resolution(besides getting an lol rocking body) is to have Catch Me up for publication at the end of the year.

  • @ Xia;
    Yes, we need to talk about the leaving-me-hanging thing, miss. wait hehehe I jest, but your stories are on my subs list. And I totally get what you mean. I don't have anything to offer in this sort of agreement but still, I can be a bit protective over things I am sentimental over.

    @ dawn of light
    Same!! I may be a control freak when it comes to some things and I have a feeling I may be, and that won't be fun for anyone. Sad

    Oh super neat!! That's great---I didn't know there was a whole thread!! I should go and check it out!!
    Thank you for commenting!!! Very Happy

  • Yeah, I agree with that! I become attached very quickly with my stories so it would be hard for me to do so Facepalm

  • I think its a possibility if a lot of communication goes between past and future author. I mean, its like average people going "yes, I can no longer care for my child, please raise it in the best environment you can". At least with me, it would be. My characters are my babies! Cry

    God, this blog reminded me I have no updated any of my Catch Me things in forever. Facepalm

    Thank you for your comment!! Very Happy I actually never seen this happen! But I'm glad that people have done this; I've seen a lot of my favorite stories just disappear without being finished so it's nice to know some writers are willing to pass on their ideas to others who are willing or can.

    @ dawn of light
    Hey, Thanks for your comment! I never seen this either! But I thought it was a nice idea. I also have to give props to people who are willing to pass on their stories, cuz in a way it kinda is like giving a part of yourself away, isn't it?
    I've heard a lot of writers here refer to their creations as their "babies". Very Happy

  • There's a thread (a very inactive thread) about adopting stories. I think the idea is great for authors who don't want to or don't think they can finish a story or write an idea, and for any authors that are interested in continuing it.

    Edit: Darn it, Audrey commented first. Facepalm But I've always thought about giving the idea a try, but none of the ideas in the thread have interested me enough and I don't really have any stories to give away.

  • There's actually a thread on Mibba for this: Unfinished Stories (Adopt-a-Story); where authors put their stories up for adoption and other authors claim them.

  • Woah, I've never seen this happen before. Like Mr. Darcy said, I do think it's a good system. It works if a story sparks little creativity for some authors. I would do it too but it's just I delete stories faster than anyone else Facepalm
    January 6th, 2016 at 04:32am
  • This is absolutely possible. It'd only work if the original author agrees to it, but I've seen this happen before. Sometimes people have ideas and then just choose to offer them to someone else and get them written about by another author who will actually write the story rather than procrastinate.

    I think it's a good system.
