Ever Wonder About Your Readers? - Comments

  • I'm not much of an avid reader on Mibba, but on the other sites that I hide out on, I typically comment on a person's story if I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't have much time to read though since I'm graduating high school soon and my entire life is all over the place.

When I write though, I post on four places and it's very, very rare that I get a comment. Quite often, I check to see how many times something I've written was viewed and the longer the story carries on, the less and less I see people reading and it really worries me. I would love to know what my readers think, but I believe that a lot of them are just shy or just can't really come up with words to describe what they think of the story or the most recent chapter.

I love my readers even though most of them don't reveal who they are and I make sure they know that in my author's notes, but yeah, I always wonder what my readers think.

On a side note, I opened up a writing blog on tumblr back in September and when I started posting there, I started getting three followers a day and it's still growing. They don't say anything, but I feel like they're enjoying what I write. tehe

I think we do. But I think that comes from the time and effort we put into it. It means a lot to us and we want it to mean something to others too for that reason.

  • Despite me not having any stories up (outside of completed one shots) I definitely wonder about my readers, too, because hardly anyone comments on anything and it's possible that everyone expects people to automatically flock to their stories and give them praise the instant it's up. So maybe we, as writers, have high expectations or something?

I am currently writing a sci-fi (although it is near future so not that much science fiction as you might like) its more like a george orwell inspired story. And Sadistic writing or dragon ball z not so much for me no, I'm sorry. I do have Underestimate me with a very sadistic enemy in it, who's tortured the main character. so maybe that will do? Otherwise I am sorry you can't find your reading cravings on here :(

  • @ Alex Moore.

Well for one, my main fandom is not really on here: Dragon Ball Z, there is only two of us that actively write in it. I'm also very much into the darker side of humanity and sci fi, and I hate general romance, I prefer unconventional . Basically, I love sadistic writing, it interests me, and there's really not a lot of that on here.

I totally know what you mean. I agree that stories with no comments deserve a comment. Everyone puts their art on here and even though of different levels, they all deserve to be appreciated. Sometimes I am flabbergasted by the beauty of some stories, while they havent had any love what so ever. But even with hundred comments, when it suddenly stops... it feels weird and sad. Maybe its my insecurity that has a say in all this, maybe I shouldn't want as much. Yet I still wonder when all the comments are focussed on the first chapter, if the way my story is running, is a right course.

Oh and out of curiousity; what would cater to your taste in reading?
    January 17th, 2016 at 02:55pm
  • For me personally, I barely read on Mibba anymore. The website doesn't cater to my tastes reading wise.

That, and I'm just so busy with life and my own writing that I just don't have time to do any of it. I also have a thing against stories with hundreds of comments, I prefer to comment on the stories with little to no comments, as I feel like those are the ones that need the praise at the time. Most writers on here don't get comments at all, and it makes me sad to see stories with heaps of comments and some with none at all. I know the stories with lots of comments are good, but so are the ones with no comments, and I feel like my praise would be better used on those stories, because the author hasn't had any feedback yet and they would be feeling worse than someone with 100+ comments. Ya know what I mean?

I know you are busy, but do indeed read on as soon as possible. There is a reason for Ruth being in our story. We really love you haha.

    @ coralreefs;
Yeah just what you said. like: 'uhm... did you like this chapter? what do you think of the character doing this etc. etc.'

    @ Join the Masquerade
Maybe you are right, maybe readers arent necesarily writers so they might not know what its like to put your work for the world to see. I hope I gain some of those true followers of the story.

  • I've never ever been a reader of a story without also being a commenter and find it odd and kinda sad that there are users that subscribe to and read a story till the end without leaving a single comment or rec and then unsubscribe when the story ends. I think perhaps that these readers are not also writers and don't understand how special comments are. Or they're selfish, because I just don't understand when a story has like 10+ subscribers and NO comments and not one of those readers has thought hmm... I should leave a comment seeing as no one else has yet, to show this author that I appreciate them posting online.

  • I know exactly how you feel! I'm in the same relationship with my readers. They're awesome and I appreciate them, but its like........"hey u ok? u alive? Pls say something!" lol. Hang in there though. Keep writing :)

  • One day I will get a chance to catch up. I feel bad that I just don't have the time, but when I finally get some I'll give you all the feedback I can think of.

While I feel it's only getting better and there is so much to come! But yeah, it's sad and it actually makes me sad. I know I shouldnt because we had so much live already, just only a few who stuck with us
    January 16th, 2016 at 08:51pm
  • I know exactly what you mean. When the numbers drop on a story, I kind of wonder why but maybe it's because not everyone checks their subscription box daily or it could be they lost interest in the story. It's sad, really Sad

  • @ dawn of light
Yeah I do all of that minus the contests. It's more that I wish people would trulycfollow it, but maybe my writing needs to be better for that.
    January 16th, 2016 at 08:31pm
  • I think people don't really comment is because they don't always have the time to leave a decent comment. For me, it takes a while because I like to live comment, which makes a longer and stronger comment. I do take a while when commenting, though lmfao

To recieve feedback, I join a contest because comments are usually given. I join some giveaways for comments or comment swaps tehe I've felt bad for taking so many gifts from many giveaways so that's when I host my own Cute

I understand. I have this great friend who always comments and she tells me her favoritw line and what she thought about the characters actions. I live her for doing that

  • I love to read but my biggest through off is when writers don't seperate their paragraphs, it could be An amazing story, but I just won't be able to read it. I have fallen back on the commenting wagon because it could be a fantastic story, but I won't know what to comment. I use mobile so I definitely cant comment about their layout. But I do try and throw in "you're doing great" or some type of words of encouragement to the writers. I've also had comments lack, but it makes up in subscribers I think. There could be three comments and 30 subscribers and 20 Recs. I won't mind that at all. It shows I'm doing something good lol. I mean I love comments :) hahha
    January 16th, 2016 at 07:49pm
  • I usually only comment on stories that are finished/completed because I tend to comment with large comments that go into detail as much as possible. There are times that I follow stories chapter to chapter, but that only happens with authors I know who don't give up. I just can't handle unfinished stories that never get updated or stop posting new chapters before the end.
