This case absolutely disgusts and angers me. It's disgusting that girls are taught about safety first before parents (and society) even think about telling a boy not to harm girls and that they are not your property. This is an example of that "boys will be boys" mentality. That leads to the blame being put on women and the responsibility of their safety being on them instead of punishment held to these predators.

Even if she said "yes" (I am fully aware she didn't) ONE CANNOT CONSENT TO SEX UNDER THE INFLUENCE! Don't quote me but I thought he had a 6 month jail sentence not prison but I'm unsure.

This whole case makes me so sick. I don't think that many people take into account also that this guy, because he is white, they used his school picture in media instead of his mug shot or 'inappropriate' pictures of him i.e. pictures of him at a red cup party or shirtless on a beach with two girls.

It bewilders me that we have people in the supreme court who would serve a rapist with a casual 6 months for 20 minutes of sexual assault. 20 minutes is a long time for something like that to happen. He deserves at least 2 years. So what if he goes to a good school, has a good family, is whatever, the fact of the matter is he hurt someone and isn't paying the rightful consequences. If he was a P.O.C. his sentence would be through the roof and his picture used int the media would be some horrible picture found on Instagram.

Why do people constantly look to bash the victim on what they were wearing or if they were drinking? An outfit and/or intoxication are not invitations for anything. People can't give consent if they're intoxicated anyways. It's not the woman's fault this happened, she'll never be safe in this world. It's sad that young girls and young women are conditioned to be afraid of men and be fearful of the worst.

Thank you for making this blog, this is such an important topic to talk about.

And my male classmates used to wonder why I would get worried about walking to the train station after university by myself. Rolling Eyes This is why most women don't feel safe walking home. A horrible thing like this happens and there's literally no justice. I can't even imagine how awful this must be for the victim -- she's been forced to go through everything, relive it all for trial and all for the person involved to just get 6 months because they think any more time would ruin his life. What about the victim's life? Are they just glossing over the fact that her life has already been ruined by the whole ordeal? She's the victim here, not him. I don't understand why they're being lenient for fear of causing him hurt when she's already been through hell and back. He's not the victim here. I don't understand why he's being portrayed as such.

This basically proves that rape culture is alive and well, though, and that the justice system isn't willing to do anything about it. This is why my dad sent me to self-defence classes when I was a teenager, and why he always has to know when I'll be home. This is why he sits up and worries about me until he sees me home and safe. This is why I avoid strange men on the street, or why I'll walk with my fists curled at night. I can't believe that the justice system has turned around and basically given a pitiful punishment for such a horrible ordeal. Allowing this guy to get out in 3 months is almost like excusing him for the disgusting actions that he did, and it's an absolute mockery of the whole thing. By letting him have such a small sentence, they're basically saying that raping a girl is okay and I am so not down with that.

I genuinely feel so heartbroken for the victim. I read the statement she released and it just broke my heart. I hope she gets at least some semblance of her life back. She doesn't deserve any of this hell, and it makes me sick that they've not given her the justice that she deserves.

    Hail

God, it makes me sick. Especially because it's really, really similar to the way I was assaulted. And people ask why more victims don't speak up against their attackers. Rolling Eyes That poor girl went through hell, relived it in her trial, and got an awful result. It's just sad.

Not to mention that he can get out as soon as three months with good behavior. Three months. It's gross.

Not only are so many survivors like the one of this case being triggered by this rapists photo circulating the internet but his mug shot photo wasn't even used ... this is exactly what white affluent cis-male privilege looks like and it makes me absolutely furious. The fact that black and brown bodies are immediately racialized and then criminalized to further progress white supremacist notions that fuel our colonized society really just pisses me off

"20 minutes of action" disgusting. women will never be safe.

    @ cleopatra.
I completely agree with you. Its all just ridiculous.
As a mother with a young son, I would NOT support him if he went out and did what his boy did to that poor woman, I would not defend him or even condone anything like this. I will - and am - teaching my son exactly what he needs to know.
Six months (most likely three) is not even a slap on the hand, its a time out in a corner and when he does it again I hope someone kills him instead of bringing him to trial.

i just don't understand the logic of the justice system or every person that defend this asshole man whose name idgaf about. & even more so that's disturbing are other women that i've been around in a school setting that's like "oh, well, she should've been careful" yo, what the fuck? (& these are women who are older & have daughters themselves)

IN MY DEFENSE: why are we teaching our daughter's to wear "safe" clothes & act "safe" @ places when we aren't teaching our son's to fuckin' stop. how about we teach our son's the rights & wrongs which should be fucking common sense but is not apparently in this day & age?????? now that's just one part of my rant which will take me on a whirlwind of emotions here, but what we don't need is a legal system being like "ah, rapes. those happen when people are drunk! & this boy is white, he will never survive in prison! bah! let's give him six months bc *waves hand* white privilege*" as opposed to a person of color that commits this crime, he'll be in prison 15+ or some shit.

this whole case is so aggravating & i have not vented my opinion elsewhere but here (bc mibba is a safe place)

    @ little tea-pot;
I know right? The judge is up for reelection and there's a petition to have him taken off the bench and the case to be reviewed by another judge and have the sentence overturned. It's disgusting and when I read about the case I lost my shit while I was at work.

Facepalm And his father had the audacity to say something like that?! What if that was her daughter that was being molested while drunk? Will he still say something like that?! I'm fuming.
