What Are the Limits for Songfics? - Comments

Lol I get what you mean, and taking the events of the song and expanding is kind of what I'm doing with my story that I've got in the works too.

I feel like it depends on the song. Sometimes when I'm writing a songfic, I'll take the overall meaning and base my story off of that, but other times I'll take "events" that happen in the song (like things the song actually says) and go into more detail about them, if that makes sense.

Following the song exactly seems a little pointless to me as well, but if you're expanding descriptions on what the song is saying and stuff, then I feel like that's fine.

Well as long as it isn't word by word, it might not be so bad?

I know one of my stories is based on a song by someone and it's basically the background of the story if that makes sense.

Yeah, I was worried that my story was the same that the song was telling

I mean the only way I could see that it would be bad is if you were copying the lyrics word by word. I don't think having a similar storyline isn't a bad thing.
