Roleplaying can be shorter posts and if you choose to roleplay through inbox, it would be for yours and your roleplay partners eyes only. You pretty much have free will and don't really have to follow a set plot, unless that's what both of you agree upon.
Co-writes are good too, in a sense. You get to write longer chapters and it's displayed for everyone to see. I don't really know how to explain it.
I don't really see that much of a difference between roleplaying and co-writing, to be honest, both are fun and creatively get the brain working.
