Finding an Editor - Comments

  • Yeah the whole process is really interesting. When it comes down to it, editing is such a challenge, even without working with someone on that level. It would be amazing just to be able to work with someone who has that level of interest in my work. Feedback is addictive, honestly.

  • @ PoeticMess.

I've thought about going into freelance editing. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing & English but there weren't many editing courses and I'm totally oblivious to tense changes.

A lot of agents and publishers can tell upon reading whether or not the writing has been through an editor. Some will even ask for resumes that show if you've had things previously published or if and by whom it has been edited by. Once you've become established, publishers will have their in house editors look over the writing and it won't be out of pocket, but that takes time.

  • I'm actually really interested in going into the publishing and / or editing field. Right now I study writing in college (overall English) and journalism (which requires tons of editing classes). I'm also experienced (not ten years, but still)- I work at my campus's writing center, where I help tutor students and edit their work, from creative projects to capstones and thesi.

I didn't realize that editors charged so much out of pocket. How do publishers know what kind of editing your work has been through?
