How long should chapters be?
I think it depends on the story. I've seen authors put all the the ideas for the chapter in less than 1,000, and I've seen chapters that were way longer. If you think your chapter only needs to be 100 words, then you don't need to write a ton more, you know?
Do you prefer to read or write long chapters? Or both?
Reading? I like both. Sometimes I prefer shorter chapters when I am just rushing to catch up on a story, but that doesn't mean I dislike longer chapters. I do like both, if I'm reading a story. As for writing? I've never been good at writing longer chapters; for some reason, I can't get past 1K words when writing chapters.
Did you ever start writing a character only to have them be second to who the real protagonist is?
Oh heck yes. Sometimes I don't like it because I like to plan my stories in advance and when that happens, then I have to replan some things if need that new character!
Did that even make sense?
Of course it does!
Best type of antagonist in your opinion?
My favorite are the characters who aren't antagonist in the beginning, or don't seem like antagonists in the beginning. Ones who I don't expect to be the bad guy. I think adding backgrounds to those characters help because I get to know them just as I know the main characters.
Tbh i think chapters should be as long or as short as it needs to be, like it should only go on until it can end naturally and the reader can jump right into the next chapter with anticipation of what's going to happen next.
2 - Do you prefer to read or write long chapters? Or both?
I kinda like doing both but it honestly depends on the story, my attention span and my mood.
3 - Did you ever start writing a character only to have them be second to who the real protagonist is?
Many times, actually. LOL.
4 - Did that even make sense?'
Yeah it did.
5 - Best type of antagonist in your opinion?
A villain that knows he's doing something bad but feels it's too late to change but almost ironically, he does do something in the end (like sacrificing himself to clean up his own mess while dying in the process). My perfect antagonist is like that University teacher from Big Hero 6, he wasn't necessarily a bad guy, he was actually a good guy but he was hurting from losing a loved one he thought was/is dead and he knows he does wrong but he feels justified in doing all the evil things he did in the movie.
