I feel like if you can prove that you wrote yours first, then publishers would be more open to publishing it. However, you'll probably get crap from fans/readers anyway because of how similar it is. I don't think it's impossible, but you might want to change some stuff up just so you don't have to worry about it. People/fans/readers can definitely be harsh about that type of stuff.
It sucks that the two are so similar. I would just change some it up if it were me. Don't want to get in trouble. You never know what other creators will do. It would be terrible for it to get published just for you to get sued.
Thank you so much for the response. I asked the guy who was gonna help me publish and he said the same thing. I'd hate to change it but I may have to. It would be unfortunate to finally publish a story after all these years just to get sued.
