Left a Toxic Work Environment and Now I Can't Find a Job - Comments

  • @ JustClara.
I’ve only applied to one nursing home so far but didn’t hear anything back. I think maybe I’m not active enough in my pursuit so I’m trying to start calling up jobs to at least getting my name in their ear. It's feel like it’s harder in the city because I feel like you gotta know someone to get in somewhere but thank you for the advice and kind words! I’m gonna put in some applications for housekeeping or food service and keep saying my prayers.

  • I dont know if this will help you or not but have you tried applying at nursing homes or hospitals for positions? After I left Tim Hortons I got a job at a nursing home starting out as a house keeper then I went up in laundry and after about a year of doing that I got my STNA/CNA. Least in places like that they give employees chances to move up ect.

Proud of you for walking out knowing you were getting in a very bad situation most people try to stick it out but you knew it was time to go. Hope the best for you and you find something soon!!! Just keep trying!!!

That sounds like a horrible experience to go through, especially since it had nothing to do with you. I'm sorry that happened to you but it's so encouraging to know that you got through it. You are so kind, thank you for your positive words!

I don't say it. I know how big of a no-no it is in the workplace to speak ill of a past employer so I just say there was no room growth, which isn't far from the truth.

Thank you for the positive vibes! I'm trying to keep myself in high spirits.

  • i had a similar situation in 2015. i had a terrible terrible job at a document courier agency. my boss was my mom’s best friend’s son in-law; which was how i got the job. but then i found out he had an affair on her daughter and when he found out i knew... it was like a total 360. he was so rude to me and creepy and i didn’t stay there much longer. i ended up getting fired. but the job was so toxic and awful that i only worked there for a few months longer. i was jobless from february to october. it was the hardest few months of my life. but i survived it. and YOU WILL TOO. i have faith. i’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers that a really badass and amazing job will come your way!

  • Are you writing on applications the work environment was toxic? Or saying in interviews what happened?
Because if you are, don't do that. Other places look at that and taking it as you are the problem/hard to work with.

I remember I quit my first job(was 15) and quit because I was being bullied/was a hostile work environment. I couldn't find a job for months when I was writing that down on applications, and one lady was kind enough to tell me to not write that/mention it when applying for jobs. So yeah, just write "no room for growth" or "no room for advancement".

But yes, hang in there! Sending you positive vibes!
