Tired Trust

I feel like resting my head against someone's shoulder, in a way that doesn't say, "I love you," but, instead, says, "I'm tired and I trust you enough to put my head on your shoulder and sleep;

like a child cradled comfortable in a parent's arms, who, encouraged by the enveloping presence, is emboldened to gaze curiously at the strangers who fill the room.

But, I am not small any longer, nor do I have the freedom to rely on others.

I must beat back the sweep of dizzy exhaustion and fight to keep awake.
