Upside Down Smile

Yesterday Afternoon, November 27.

I was in my Anatomy and Physiology class. We were supposed to finish up our illustrations on different brain topics (the cerebrum, cerebellum, spinal cord etc). But I'd already done my drawings and was busying myself with other, non-academic drawings. One of my classmates, also already finished with her drawings asked for my sketchpad. Sometimes the exhibitionist, I allowed her audience to my sketches.

A minute of skimming later and she returned my sketchpad.

And she poised the question I have never heard anyone ask me before:

"Why do all your drawings have sad eyes?"

I was stunned at the question, not sure of how to answer it. I opened my sketchpad and skimmed. Lo, she was right. A lot of my drawings, the ones that had faces, at least, had sad, weeping eyes.

I close my pad, and think to myself:

What the hell is wrong with me.
