Where has all the inspiration gone?

Right so today is Friday, and school starts again on Monday. So I have a total of 3 days (including today) to get this stupid music assignment done and off my chest.

Now I did do a little bit today.. like um... 4 bars. but that's still something!

The first part of the assignment was to write an essay explaining how Haydn uses the elements of music to create surprise in his 2nd movement of symphony No. 94 in G major

This one, if you're wondering.

It was horrible. Took my three weeks to write a freaking essay. I mean who does that? Seriously?

But that's finished now, thank goodness.

The 2nd half of the assignment is to write variations on a theme.

Now the theme is easy, simple, and boring for a reason.
But my variations are pathetic.

I know how to modulate, I know how to do a sequence, I know about repetition, retrograde, inversion, augmentation, diminution. It's just.. I feel like whatever I do.. It doesn't... work.

The thing about a theme and variation is that all your variations have to still resemble the theme in a way. Like you can't just go and make something new

How annoying. I thought Composition was doing whatever I wanted.

I can't think of anything....

Maybe I'm trying too hard?
