So I started working for a local production company and I will say that I love the people, love the environment but dealing the band can be the best and worst part. and when I say this, I mean it in the most honest way.
When I was younger(like 16 really) I booked this band called Otenki, but they never showed up to a city-wide event that every school and city official was present. In result, I got booted as entertainment committee head of District Wide Student Government, nice huh? I kept my school position because I won the election fair and square my old committee position was given to an "urban" guy who only wanted Dj's where as I wanted live performers and bands.
Now, I've come to see many bands that are just jerks that if I knew that they were like that, I wouldn't book them. There's this band in particular, Hayworth, that has just pissed me off. the headliner, Damsels in Distress booked them for the show but I told one of the members I need the bands to contact me themselves so I know that they're actually free and ready to go, not to mention that they have all rules and regulations from the club. Hayworth got 3 messages from me. did they respond? no. how do I know? to make sure that I've emailed the bands that I need to I always check my sent folder in my myspace that conveniently let's me know if they've read it or not. Hayworth read every message but never replied. So I let Damsels know, and then Hayworth hit me up really rude like saying;
"we CONFIRMED"
I don't think they understand THIS IS MY JOB. If they don't confirm with me, how do I know they'll even show up? What about the fans that are pissed as hell that they didn't show up? they're gonna make the club look bad and I'm not having that. the club has already gotten enough shit because we're a new club and they don't believe we could book good bands, so I dont want to tarnish the clubs name anymore. Like the incident before, I would look bad! not just the club and I can't afford to lose the job of my dreams (well it's really to be a tour manager but you gotta start somewhere)
I simply told them to understand that this is my job and I'm not willing to risk it, just like their not willing to burn a bridge in Rhode Island (their from Connecticut) cause I WILL forward this to every booking agent and club in Providence. I'm not a punk; best believe. They ruin my job, I ruin their chances of playing in Providence; fair exchange.
