Confessing. Is it that hard even if he's leaving?

I couldn't say that today was the best day, but I couldn't say it was the worst. My friend is blabbing about how she's going to miss this guy two years older than her and never even talked to in person, I don't blame her. They're leaving to high school and she loves him. I barely pay attention to what she's saying because she's said it a million times during school. She tells me that there have been million of guys she has liked and only one of them was able to stay in her "list". I say, "That's great. Really, it is." What I don't get is, since the guy she likes isn't going to be in the school anymore, so why doesn't she just confess to him. If she likes him so much, why not? I tell her that and she just looks at me like I'm crazy, turns, and just continues walking with me. Maybe she loves him a little TOO much to even take the risk of losing him.
