Do I Just Ask?

So I want to get more people to read my poems and stories but I feel rude when I ask people to read them, I don't know why I do but is there a way to ask nicely or do I just ask? I think my stiff is ok and good but it would be nice to have more people read them and tell me what they think.
So I was wondering is there a certain way you ask people to read your stuff or do you just tell them to check out your stuff?
