It was not meant to be

We were best friends and then he said he liked me and i confessed i liked him to. Then we grew more fond of each other and me and him called it love at one point. The last time i holded him before he left for vacation he told me he loved me. And now that he's back, he hasnt said it and neither have i. i wonder if its my fault that things have gone bad. I didnt even tell him i missed him when he arrived from his trip. i dont know what to do now. I know he thinks i dont care but he doesnt know how much he means to me. I dont want to tell him because im afraid of making things even more awkward. I dont know how things went from best friends to complete strangers.
