Is there a reason for America to get involved?

Okay so I'm a little confused.

This Lockerbie bomber thing, I don't know much about it and I don't particularly want to learn, because of how horrific it sounds, but the one thing I don't understand and want to know is what America has to do with the guy who was locked up for it, Al Magrahi, being released? Was there American people on the plane? 'Cause I could completely understand why they are trying to get involved if there were.

I've tried to look it up but there wasn't much there, considering my computer is messed up and wouldn't let me on Wikipedia for it. I just want to know if America does have any connection with it at all. Being Scottish and all, I want to know if the attack against our government and our dicision is justified or not.

If someone could clear that up, it would be handy.
