Musical Theater...

So, after moving this summer, I thought, 'Self, why not try something new and daring that you normally wouldn't?' So I take a few summer classes at this dance studio in town for Musical Theater. Now- normally I'm a shy person who hates going up in front of people to talk, and act silly around people I don't know, but it was a small class- just two other girls, one was a year younger than me and then the other was like, 8 years younger? xD So I got comfortable and I realized I really loved doing scenes. It was fun to be the overly perky cheerleader in Grease, or the chilly, British fairy godmother in a version of Cinderella, or the Tin Woodsman in the Wiz. We didn't put on a show or anything, just did scenes in class. We only danced once (unfortunately), and sang once or twice (fortunately).

Anyways, so the regular classes start up again with the new school year and, feeling confident, I join the musical theater class because they're putting on Wicked (YESSS). We have to do try-outs for different roles, obviously, but those try-outs include singing, as well as acting and dancing. I know for a fact that I do not sing well, so I'm really nervous.

Anyways, the whole point of this journal was this: These other girls are all modest when it's their turn to go saying things like, "Oh, you guys! You know I'm not very good!" and then going up and singing like Barbara Streisand or Idina Menzel. It's kind of irritating to me because it's like, damn. If they can sing like that, why on Earth do I even want to try out? It's quite degrading to ones last shred of self-confidence. It sucks, too, because if you can't sing, you're not going to get a main role- or even a role with a name. Blast. The one character I would have really wanted to do (Boq, for all of you fellow Wicked lovers), only has one line that he sings alone, but OF COURSE it's a line where the note is held for a really long time. -.-
