Colour to paint room.

I don't really know what to choose. my mom has finally given me permission to paint my room she said anything but black or any dark shades close to black. So I don't know what to paint my room. I really want it to be black and just take a water gun filled with paint and just paint it that way but she said no to that. So i'm left wondering what to paint my room. Could somebody help me please? I really like the color red and purple. I have this blood red carpet and it's awesome but I want it to be contrasted to it. Or... i don't know how to explain it. could somebody help me please?
