Pretty Smiles And Lies About the Times

A smile.
How much does it really say?
Does it really say anything? Or does it say nothing at all?
A smile is many things.
It's a hiding place. It's a show of emotion. It's a mirror. It's a wall. It's a heart. It's a lie.
For some people it says that they're happy.
For others, it says nothing.

It covers so much. When you smile, everyone thinks you're okay. They assume.

When you're smiling, It's normally because you're around someone else who's happy. You wanna be like they are. So you do what they're doing. Or you try.
It's a wall:
It's used to keep people out. It tells them that there's no reason to come in.
It's a heart:
Some people wear their smile, as they would wear their heart on their sleeve. They let everyone see it.
It's a lie:
It covers up the truth. It covers up all of the pain and hurt that you pushed down inside yourself, so that even you don't feel it most of the time.

Smiles are very dangerous. It makes us look "okay". But what is "okay" now? It's definitely not what we are. We use these smiles to hide tears. We use smiles to be like everyone else. We use smiles to keep everyone else from trying to get in. We use smiles to lie, and tell everyone that we are "okay". Well guess what world? We are not okay.

And we avoid the topics.
We make the kids have secrets.
And when they are exposed
and everyone else knows,
we'll say we never knew it,
that they had a problem.
'Cause if we would have known
we surely would have solved it.
But we can't, it's too late.

We hide behind the faces that we make to disguise.
The things that we're ashamed of
and all the ugly things that make us close our eyes.
