Tips for writing in the first person?

I generally always write in the third person but I want to start writing in first person. Except I'm terrible at writing in the first person. Really terrible. So I'm trying to write a new story, and I wrote one paragraph, but it was really difficult and it really, really sucked.

I know a lot of people on Mibba write in the first person so I'm hoping maybe you could give me some tips/advice?

I don't want to come up with a self insert character, and I don't like writing 'I' as much as
(s)he, it feels weird, if you know what I mean.
