Can someone help?

My Passport expired in June 2010 and I need some ID, I know some places don't accept an expired passport as ID, but, would it work if I showed my college ID, that's got my picture, DOB and name on it?

I know most places won't just accept a college ID because it doesn't have a signature on it...Most places only accept things that have a signature, picture and DOB. [I live in the UK, just in case you needed to know that.] I'm fully aware most shops will serve without ID, but I need it for bars are bigger supermarkets.
