Christmas Presents for Pets

So I was buying my cat a new scratching post for Christmas the other day, when I realised that I spent more on my cat than I had spent on my brothers for Christmas.

I was just wondering, is it normal to buy a present for your pets?

Every year, me and my mum go on this great search to find new collars for my pets that are different to ones they have previously had. We probably spend more time looking for presents for my cat than we do for some people in the family. But do animals even know it's Christmas? Is there a point to buying them Christmas presents?

When I was younger, I had this fish that lived for ages, and I used to get it a new plant for it's tank every year for it's birthday. It's seems silly now that I think about it. I'm sure it never even noticed that it had a different plant in it's tank.

However, I think I've figured out the reason why I do it. I'm just one of those people that loves buying presents for people. I love buying presents for my pets too, just for the sake of buying presents. I like to think they appreciate getting new things.

I hope I'm not the only one who does this. Does anyone else buy Christmas presents for their pets or do anything special for them on Christmas?
