This is basically Skins spam, but with a purpose. I've seen a few people question what Skins is actually about so i'm going to attempt to 'explain' it. With screencaps and GIF's =D. Also, some of those who haven't seen it (or are basing their judgements solely on the US version . . .) have disregarded it as silly teenage porn or something, but I want to prove people they're wrong. Cos Skins sort of changed my life . . . in a very roundabout way.
*This is about Skins UK btw. Skins US has different characters and different storylines.
Change. It’s a wonderful thing. Look, you know how subatomic particles don’t obey physical laws? They act according to chance, chaos, coincidence. They run into each other in the middle of the universe somewhere and bang! Energy! We’re the same as that. That’s the great thing about the universe: unpredictable. That’s why it’s so much fun ~ Tony Stonem.
Skins Gen 1: Tony, Michelle, Sid, Cassie, Chris, Jal, Maxxie and Anwar (and Sketch in the second series). Oh and Effy too, kinda.
Tony is the ring-leader. Really smart and witty. As the first series progresses you find out that he’s actually quite twisted and more of an anti-hero because he starts creating these situations which end up hurting a lot of his friends (e.g. When he cheats on his girlfriend with Maxxie, a homosexual). He does it because he wants excitement, basically. Something happens at the end of the first series which makes Tony a different and much more vulnerable character throughout the second series. Tony is played by Nicholas Hoult, who is an amazing actor IMO because he manages to make Tony likeable despite his cruel and destructive ways.
‘Do you remember when you rode with me in the ambulance after I tried to kill myself? That’s what love feels like.’ ~ Cassie.
And then we have this Sid & Cassie love story. Sid being Tony's best friend (and doormat) who's really loveable, I think, and Cassie being this crazy, anorexic, crazy girl who is one of my all time favourite Skins characters ever.
Along with the Tony and Sid bromance, I also love the Maxxie & Anwar bromance throughout the two series. Anwar is a Muslim and Maxxie is a gay dancer.
They’re best friends, but problems occur within the friendship because of the fact that Anwar’s religion teaches that homosexuality is wrong.
Another one of my favourite characters is Chris. He’s hilarious but so tragic at the same time. He’s just brilliant. I genuinely love him to pieces.
In the first series Chris gets involved with his psychology teacher, and also becomes homeless and in the second series he starts a relationship with Jal, the clarinet-playing mature-ish one of the group.
And the relationship between Tony and his sister, Effy, is adorable to watch because they seem to understand each other in a way no-one else does. Also, Effy is amazing. She spends the first series as a mute but then starts talking in the second one. (I love the episode 'Effy' in the second series. The ending gave me a really different opinion of her character).
The second series also introduces Sketch, a young carer who stalks Maxxie and poisons Michelle with her mums pills in order to play the part of Maxxie's love interest in the production of Osama: The Musical.
Yeah.
The second series ends with one of the characters' death
and the other's recieving their A-level results and starting a new stage in their lives.
Watch this
So basically that's gen 1 of Skins for you. I miss it.
Skins Gen 2: The second generation of Skins (series 3 & 4) is anchored by Tony's sister, Effy who is now at sixth form. The rest of the cast of series 1 & 2 are no longer in it and have been replaced with entirely different characters. IMO these series are darker and more unrealistic than the original ones, but I love them all the same.
Series four ends quite abiguously, but with one of the characters presumed to be dead.
Skins Gen 3 Recently Skins series 5 has just started with two episodes shown so far. All the characters are brand new this time. There are very mixed opinions on it, because it's quite . . different. I'm still reserving judgement at the moment though.
That wasn't a great explanation . . . but it's a hard show to explain! Still, if you don't like, you don't like it. That's fine; It's not perfect. But don't sneer at it without even giving it a chance:)
Kthanx.
Series 1 finale:
...The fact that Sid's actor is actually singing this just makes me love him so much more. Mike Bailey ftw.
Can't wait for the movie.
Bye.
Oh and you can watch episodes on youtube:
