Tattoo later. Need advice.

Okay, so this afternoon I'm getting my first tattoo. I'm a little nervous, but more excited.
I know that the artist will tell me information and things, but I just wanted to get other people's advice and tips.

First of all, I'm getting it on my ribs, and I know that a lot of people have said that area is very sore. I understand that people handle pain differently, and I'm okay with pain, but roughly, on a scale of 1 to 10, how sore is that area? If any of you know?

Second, what's some good little tips about aftercare? I know that you have to wash it thoroughly and apply an ointment, but any little home tips about caring for it?
I'm sorry if I sound immature or thinking about it too much, but I know people who haveb't cared for their tattoo's and they've ended up with big scabs and scars.

Hopefully, I will be able to put up a picture of my tattoo after I get it done<3.
