A little help in the musical direction?

Right, as I'm typing this I'm realising how utterly idiotic I am, but what the Hell.

I've been thinking recently about how much I'd quite like to start a band.
I sing a lot and I want to do something more with it and to show people what I've got, but every time someone suggests a band it goes nowhere. I mean, absolutely nowhere.
I don't even know where to get started, to be honest. I'm hopeless.
I know people who'd happily consider doing this with me, which is a start.
But I was kind of hoping someone could help me out on how the Hell I even get started?
Like, I wanna make this go somewhere.
I want to actually play music and make it something important.
I just need a little push to help me get going.
Any thoughts of advice - or telling me how ridiculous I am - would be appreciated.
