GIMP or Photofiltre? [+questions]

I just can't make up my mind.

So, I yesterday I found out about these obviously wonderful photo editing programs: GIMP and Photofiltre (obviously). Though, I've been trying to debate on which one to download. I'm not going to download both because there's already limited space on my PC, but I really want to have a great program to make banners with.

I read that Photofiltre was really easy to work with, but that GIMP had a lot more great options and blah, blah, blah. I really don't know. So, I come to you, great Mibbians, with the question that shall be asked for all eternity: GIMP or Photofiltre?

2. What programs do you use to make banners, if you do?
3. Are you doing anything awesome this weekend? (I'm seeing Harry Potter!)
