poems don't have to rhyme... right?

I write a lot of poems but the mostly don't rhyme. i'm horrible at making them rhyme so they don't. I feel like poems just have to be meaningful. some one read my poems and said they liked it but didn't see a lot of skill. what's up with that? i mean they could have given suggestions or some thing. my poems don't have rhyme but i set them up a certain way and i do them in freestyle
