What is this?!

Okay, so I have a question for you guys. What is with all of the freaking fan-fics?

No offense to anyone who writes or enjoys them, but I'm just honestly curious. Before, I would go to the updated stories and there might be a couple, but now it's like BAM! Fan-fics everywhere. Most of the updated original stories get pushed off and might even be skipped over if you're just looking quickly because they're surrounded by fan-fics. Maybe I just don't get it because I don't like them, but I would appreciate if someone could give me something to work with to answer my question. Or just answer it. Whichever comes first.
