You say that you don't care about 9/11 because there's a war where 150,000 civilians have been killed versus the roughly 3,000 that died ten years ago today. Almost to the minute. I can clearly see this war has hit a sore spot with you; you don't support it, and you are infuriated over the massive loss of life.
I can understand that. But what I can't understand is blowing off the terrorist attack on our own country. Saying it's not as important. Ignoring the pain and suffering of people who are not in a war zone, yet got sacrificed for the cause of a group intent on causing acts of terrible chaos.
There is a difference between a war zone and a peacetime zone. America is in a unique position; although our government is at war and our military is fighting in the Middle East, the ordinary, civilian Americans are not. We can't control what missions the president orders or the wars that Congress declares. Are you seriously that ignorant to think that us as an American people really holds the most powerful decision behind what Congress does? Politics is a dirty, nasty game. You don't fool anyone into thinking it is anything but that.
It is absolutely heartbreaking that those civilians in the Middle East have died as a result of war. But it is absolutely essential that you understand this point-- they were in a war zone. Wars have been fought for thousands of years. They're not going away, and they're not going to get any nicer. People die in wars, and there's nothing you, a lazy college boy on Facebook, can do anything about it. You're not a superhero nor are you King of the World. Stop thinking yourself to be superior.
9/11 didn't hit the American government per se. It hit the American people. We were just innocently living out our lives, and suddenly, we have to suffer from this. We mourn more than the people who died on impact that day. We also mourn those who die years after from the extremely harmful effects of the thick dust from the towers.
We are not used to having war on our soil because we only have two countries on our borders. Are you seriously going to f*cking judge us for our geography? How f*cking dare you.
My father was supposed to be on one of those planes for a business trip. Thankfully, the trip was cancelled. You cannot imagine how much more pissed I would be at you right now if it wasn't. The internet might have exploded on your face.
What did we do to deserve this?
To the victims of 9/11 and the aftereffects: RIP. You are gone but will never be forgotten.
America loves you.
(This is directed at someone I am friends with on Facebook and go to college with. I do not agree with his opinion, obviously.)
