Do We Truly Know Each Other?

My friends tell me they know me as well as I know myself. That seems to be mostly true, in fact, some of them seem to know me better than I know myself. But do they really know me?

There are apparently four layers to a person;

The outermost layer which we reveal to strangers,

The second layer which we reveal to friends and some acquaintances,

The third layer which we reveal to close friends, spouses etc.

The fourth layer which we do not reveal to anyone; it holds our deepest secrets.

So if we never fully reveal ourselves, does anyone really know us? Do we need every detail to fully know a person? If so, then I don't think we truly know each other at all.
