The Promise of ‘Someday’

Hotel managers still leave Bibles hidden away in the little bedside draws of their granny flats’.

There is something surreal about having just come from an abusive and miserable situation, which is your life, then to have one week of peace, being fully aware that that situation will still be there when you get back. The time away in a hotel or at friend or family member’s place for example, a place that is clean and quiet and pleasurable, is dreamlike. It’s not your reality. It’s a break from your reality. But it is peaceful. It reminds you of the good that is really out there. It’s not attainable to you right now, but it is still out there. It leaves imprinted on your soul, even when later you are back in that tormented situation, with anxiety and hopelessness, that there is still the promise of ‘someday’.
