The English Language

Why does the story of how the English Language was made feel like it starts out with "Well one day these guys were sitting in a bar." Seriously I feel like you have to be drunk make up some of these rules. For example: I before E except after C. (sounds okay so far) Oh and except for these other times as well. (What!?) So as we know all languages aren't prefect, but I swear if English wasn't my first language I would have little ambition to learn all that crap. I wonder how an English teacher in another country goes about teaching English. Do they just say "Yeah, I know this makes no sense. Just shut up and try to follow along." Well that's my best advice. We might not think about it all the time, but how would you tell a kid learning English that when you take the word though and add a T on the end that you pronounce it differently. I'd be pissed if I had to learn English again.
