KAtsumi Tell All: The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games, is first and for most a trilogy of books that have been adapted in to a movie and I have to say this is so fare the best adaptation I have seen…

In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.

I’m going to do things a little odd today instead of doing the cast last we’re going to do them first I’m of course going to start with the main three:

The whole cast was amazing I was worried actually about Josh,Lawrance,Hensworth, at first I honestly didn’t think any of them was right I felt Hensworth and Lawrance didn’t look skinny or dirty enough to have come from the seem even with Lawrance losing 20 pounds..

With Hensworth I think he was great for what little screen time he got, I’m still not sure he’s the best Gale but he played the part well and did great in the few extra parts they added in more on that later though

Lawrance just I was blown away at how well she embody Katniss, I honestly don’t think they could have gotten anyone better to play her she carried a lot on her shoulders being the lead and she carried it well her lines where spoken great you could almost feel the fear coming from her through the part of the movie from the reaping on to the games, and you could basically read her feelings.

Josh he was a little hard read at first I mean they left out some good stuff from him in the books so all you really get till the training starts was him on the train and how exsited he was to be going to the Capitol, but once the first little bit is over you can tell if they’d have picked anyone else it wouldn’t have been Peeta, Josh does a brilliant job at bringing Peeta’s feeling out specially in the caves.

Woody made a wonderful Hamitch though I think I’d have went with some one who looked a little more aged he played his part well for the most part though I don’t think they allowed him to as mean or as drunk as he was in the books specially tword Katniss

Kravitz was another one I wasn’t sure would do a good job but boy did he prove me wrong, when he was talking to Katniss you could just feel how he felt for her in their private moments and when he was preping her for an apperance in front everyone you could just tell he felt bad for what he was doing yet he was so convincing that he was just another person from the Capitol

I don’t know her name but she was one of the youngest on the cast and played Rue and I tell you I think she could have stolen the show she did a wonderful job and I have to tell you SPOILER FOR THOES WHO AINT READ THE BOOK!!!! The death scene was heart crushing not as crushing as in the book but to see it on screen and see such a young actor with such little exsprince do it was well amazing.

And last but not least Ludwig who plays Cato, I like Ludwig as an actor I don’t think he gets as much credit as he should but when I first saw him as Cato I thought he was going to ruin him, but boy does this boy play menacing well he of course doesn’t have a lot of screen time or a lot of lines but when he does I was shocked and the final scene he’s in just omg he played it so well I actually felt bad for him …

Pacing is a problem in this film its not that bad but it gets you, the first half is slow and full of stuff you need to know, you see Katniss and Gale, you see the Hob, you get to see Geasy Sue (Sp?) no name is given then it jumps straight in to Katniss and Prime.

This is where we see Katniss with her sister for the very first time they talk about the Reaping for a short moment and then their mother is brought in to the scene and tells Katniss that’s she’s laid something special out for her once that’s done we’re thrown in to the Reaping.

We watch as everyone goes and gets in their lines and the Effie talks for a few moments and then you get a History on Panem then she calls for the first girl tribute which is Primrose Everdeen, it then pans to Prim who looks so frightened her name was called after he sister promised it wouldn’t be.

Then we get a zoom in on Katniss, who’s almost frozen in time before she’s seen screaming and then from there Peeta’s name is called and then the pair is sweept away where they get 3 minutes with their vistors Katniss is greeted by her mother and sister and before their time is up we get shown a little back story where its almost as if Katniss is the adult and we learn their father has died.

Then Gale comes and of course promises not to like Prim or her mother starve and that he knows she’s coming home, then we’re off to the train and now that I think about it that whole scene is a litte Effie (No pun intended) it just seemed a little chopy…

Then after they get to the capitol its straight in to getting presentable then in to training well atleast that’s what I am going to say cause I’m not runing everything, this is where the pacing gets the worst as you I’m sure could tell all the stuff up to where I’m at with you now was really slow but the training goes fast and then the games go even faster 24 of them and only one comes out alive …

One thing that really bothers me is they botched the ending of the book, I see why they did it but for people who havent read the book you wont understand them last few seconds well you might, other then that I think the other main thing that shouldn’t have been left out of this film is some of the gifts, let me back track.

Durring the games seeing as their televised you get sponser who send you things by parachute during the movie Katniss gets two things this way and in the book she gets sever and one of the main things they should have put in was the bread, (Don’t worry its not a spoiler only book people will know what I mean)

I also think the MokingJay, Mutts, and Tracker Jakers should have been explained, you see two of them in the movies and hear one but not once will this make since really the MokingJays are a Muttation between Moking birds and Blue Jays used to spy on people, and the other two are also mutations…

Also one thing that bothere me the fact the cornicopia wasn’t gold and the last show down between the final three wasn’t done as horrifically as it was done in the book which I understand, because this film is a PG-13 film but I don’t mean the deaths I mean the Mutts..

Of course that is really all the flaws this movie has everything else is right on point and when I say on point guys I mean get ready to see one pissed of PResident one un happy game keeper, a girl on fire, the freakiest people you will ever see.. Just you have to see this one for your self.

I know I was doing a lot of knit picking just now but that’s what I am here for to tell you what I really think and feel which is that this book turned movie was amazing and for a PG-13 film of such a horrific story they done a great job they showed enough blood to let you know bad and terrible things where going on, but not enough blood to make it a horror movie …

They even done well in making the sub-plot barable in the books I think the love triangle that is going on is a little much I mean you’re fighting for your life now really isn’t the time to be thinking of boys which is why I get they didn’t end it how I wanted it to end, they did a great job in making this film about the games and not so much about love I mean you get the idea that its there and that there is conflict but so fare it hasn’t went much further then that and I like that, I know I know Peeta or Gale is a big thing in the books but I think toning it down was for the best at least for the first film of course I think it will confuse people but I think it better to just fist establish the main focus..

All in all I give this film a solid A, it’s a great film for the whole family its got a little something everyone will love a strong back story action, sadness, and maybe a little love, even corruption dare I say. Its got everything a summer block bust should have and I think will do rather well and will more then likely see again before its out of theater.
