This is my fourth dream journal log. What's funny about this whole thing, is that as someone who dreams almost every night and for the most part remembers my dreams completely I have not had a single dream I could remember since I started actually trying to keep a dream journal. I'm just glad I still remembered a lot of my dreams from before.
Again this was one of the settings my dreams has frequented quite a bit. It was a huge Victorian boarding school, and like my last journal log I always had the feeling like I was being held captive. It was a feeling of being unable to leave, to the point that none of the doors to the outside opened once you were inside. The inside could change but there was one thing that was always the same. There was a staircase on the east end of the building that went on for what seemed forever in both directions. Inevitably in all of my dreams involving this building I would wind up stuck in that stairwell.
The school itself, had kids ranging from daycare to high school students. As I grew older I would keep revisiting the school in new classes. So, the last time I had this dream was some time last year, when I was a senior in high school.
I believe we were preparing to go on our Senior Trip. Everyone was gathered in a room on one of the first floors. I, as always, ended up in the infinite stairwell. I had a Scimitar in my hand as I ran steadily up flight after flight of stairs.
Now, normally I don't meet any one on the stairwell, but this time I ran into two people. Will, was the first one. He was coming down the stairs looking for me.
"There you are. Why are you going upstairs? We're getting ready to leave."
Even in the dark stairwell I could still see his pale blonde hair and bright blue eyes. They were questioning. I didn't have time for questions.
"I'll be there in a minute." I told him and slipped past him to continue up the stairs. Just like I knew he would, he followed me.
"Wait, what are you going to do? Why have you got a sword?"
I whirled around, "Look, it doesn't matter. Just go back downstairs and tell them I'll be there in a few minutes. Don't let them leave without me."
I turned to leave again, but he stopped me.
"What are you going to do? Maybe I can help, and it'll go faster."
I shook my head, "No, I'm the only one who can do this. You'll just be in the way."
He stared at me weirdly for a minute, "No way. I'm coming with you."
He raced up the stairs ahead of me.
"Wait, no! Will!" I cried racing after him.
That's when we ran into Jake.
"Hey guys," He said with that stupid grin on his face, "Where y'all going?"
I glared at him, "Nowhere. Will was just going back downstairs. I'm to take care of something, then I'll be down in a few."
"Nah, I'm pretty sure I saw Will headed up stairs, with you," He toyed, "Come on you guys, tell me the truth."
Neither of us said anything.
"Now, since you won't tell me, I'll have to guess. Let's see what would a guy and a girl be doing in a dark stairwell all alone?" He asked raising an eyebrow.
I looked over at Will, pleading.
"Jake, come on man," He said punching Jake's shoulder, "You know she and I are just friends."
Jake narrowed his eyes for a second then broke into a laugh, "Yeah, I know. I'm just messing with you guys."
As Will led Jake downstairs I slipped around them and reach the top of the next flight of stairs. I knew Will wouldn't give up that easily. He would come back upstairs the next chance he got. And if he busted in unarmed, he could get hurt, or killed. So, I waited for him to come back up the stairs.
I stood on a landing, staring out the huge window at the blood moon. It made the already creepy atmosphere of the school almost unbearable. The silent dark of the stairwell slowly began to seep into my skin, chilling my courage at its core.
It seemed an eternity before I heard the soft tread of his steps on the wooden stairs. He jumped when he saw me on the stairs.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."
"You didn't scare me,I just didn't expect you to still be here waiting," He huffed.
I gave him a dry look, "Sure."
A cloud passed in front of the moon, and it felt as if a pulse of energy radiated through the whole building. I grabbed Will and shoved him into a corner and told him to close his eyes.
"What are you- why?"
"Don't ask, just do it."
We stood there pressed as hard as we would get against the wall, waiting for something to happen.
"What are we doing?" He whispered.
I shh'd him and suddenly they were there. They shimmered and pulsed like living shadows that were fighting to remain in this dimension. I could see horns and claws hidden by long dark cloaks. Will grabbed my arm as I pressed harder against the wall. We watched dozens of them go by, then as suddenly as they came they were gone.
We stood there in silence for another minute. Neither of us even dared to breathe. I finally exhaled and pealed myself off the wall.
Will looked at me wide eyed, "What were those things?"
"Demons."
He shook his head, "But why are they in the school, why can we see them?"
I ignored his questions, "Come on," I said and raced up the next level of stairs. He didn't follow.
I stopped, "Come on," I told him again.
"Why are we going after them? Let's go back downstairs."
"No," I said, "This is what I was going upstairs for." I held up the scimitar.
He stared at me incredulously.
"Come on, I promise I'll protect you," I said and smirked.
"I'm not af-."
"Yeah, I know. Come on."
I raced away, this time I knew he would follow.
We made it to the top of the stairwell. I motioned for him to stop.
There was a door at the top of the stairs, it was cracked slightly letting a stream of red gold light filter into the hall.
I crept around and peered through the crack. I could tell that there were a lot of them. They were arguing.
I backed up and turned to Will.
"Maybe you should stay here."
"No way. I came up here with you. I'm going in there. Plus, after what I just saw there is no way in heck I'm letting you go in there by yourself."
Yeah. Well, I thought, If you do go in you may get yourself killed. You have no idea what is in there.
"Here," I said handing him the scimitar which was now glowing with a pale white blue light.
"No way," He said shoving it back at me, "Then what will you use?"
"I know how to defend myself against them. You don't."
He frowned, but thankfully took the scimitar.
"On my signal."
I pulled a gun out of my pocket and grabbed the door handle.
"Now!"
I yanked the door open and shot the first things I could see. They sizzled and melted into piles of black ichor before disappearing. When I was out of bullets I grabbed a knife from my boot and started slicing away. Thankfully Will knew how to use a sword and was hacking away at his own prey.
Soon we were overwhelmed. The blade was knocked from his hands and we were both pushed to our knees.
What did you think would happen? That you and this mortal would be able to come in here and slay all of us? Most of us greater principalities and I a prince.
"Yeah," I said spitting blood from my mouth, "I was hoping for something like that."
Fool
A scream erupted from Will as one of the demons tore into his back.
Suddenly the skylight shattered overhead, and I was snatched off the floor and into the night sky.
What were you thinking?
The angel's voice boomed into my head.
"You can't leave Will," I cried.
If he dies, it is no ones fault but your own.
Yeah, and that is where the dream ended. Sucks, right?
A Victorian Boarding School, Angels, Demons, and a Glowing Scimitar.
