So. I guess I just got asked out?

Yes, I finally have a gentleman caller.

Well, not really. I mean, yes, really. But it's hard to explain. So let me begin.

I was sitting at lunch with my usual group (outspoken scene queens, nerds, quiet bookworms) and my friend Augie (his real name is Augustus, which is also the name of my favorite fictional character) turns to me and says, "Zack likes you."

I'm kind of taken aback. Mostly because Zack and I are exact opposites. He is a huge redneck. Not that that's a bad thing, it's kind of endearing, but it's not specifically my kind of thing.

So I turn back to Augie and say, "Are you sure?"

And he says, "He wants to know if you'll go out with him."

And that's part of the reason I said no.

Guys who can't ask out girls themselves. I get it. You're nervous and scared of facing rejection head on. But girls (such as me) find making your friends ask girls out for you kind of awkward. It kind of feels like a game of telephone.

Anyways, yes, I said no. But only because I didn't know anything else to say. I guess I've never thought about Zack that way, but I guess I could begin to think about it?
