Our Hearts; What Controls Feelings?

What controls the feelings we have? Do we choose the person that we want to give our hearts to or does it just happen, no choice involved?

I personally beleive in the latter. We don't choose it, it just happens. When you meet someone for the first time you instinctively know whether you are going to like them or not. Sometimes that "liking" goes a step further. Unfortunately according with this belief I have to recognize that the recipient of these feelings may not return them. This hurts but feelings CANNOT be forced.

Luckily there are many fish in the sea, so to speak. If it was felt once the chances are high those feelings will come again. Hopefully the next recipient will reciprocate.
