Poetry

I've been thinking of poetry a lot theses days, short little poems. I don't like to drag on the meaning of a poem for many verses when I can capture the meaning in a few short lines. I started off hating poetry, I couldn't understand it and I couldn't write it and that frustrated me. I began to learn that for me to love poetry, I had to break away from the structures.

I'm not a person that enjoys structure, I have no set time in my schedule and I usually just go with the flow. So why did I think my writing needed structure? It didn't, because I was trying to write as something I'm not. I began to embrace free verse and the openness of it was much more acceptable than other forms of poetry.

I do challenge myself, I'll try to write rhyme or a Ballad maybe a Sonnet. But really, it's not the type of poetry I enjoy writing. I like when writers throw their thoughts onto a paper in a messy artstic format. I like that the end of each line doesn't rhyme or maybe the poem itself makes absolute no sense yet is completely beautiful.

Poetry is such a lovely thing, and it's something that bring great joy into my life.
