Moving to America

As the title says... I'm moving to America for a year. I'm going to work as an au pair for a wealthy family and I'll also have the chance to go to college.
This is bananas. Crazy bananas. I have never been away from home for more than two weeks and now I won't be able to see my family for 13 months.

I'm a bit scared of going. What if no one wants to talk to me? What if they think I look weird?
I just want to fit in and have a great year.
