Legolas Cannot Survive Rape

Canonically, it isn't possible. There ya go. It isn't. Tolkien said so himself. An Elf would lose the will to live if rape was even so much as attempted. The sucky thing is that this is the most often-employed tactic in slash LotR and that's what always fails to ruin it for me. They might be gay but still totally IC and the lines sound right and all is well and then our dear Dark Elf just HAS to get raped and I'm like, I have to stop. That is the second most awful breach of canon and I can't. (The first would be adding to the Fellowship and increasing the number from Nine to anything because you ruined the excellent symbolism and by this point your OC has no doubt upstaged someone or rendered Boromir a sexist). But I can't. Nope. Can't and won't. It's totally not gonna gel with me and I'm not ever going to be okay with it because it really cannot and never will happen at all ever. Though if you add more magical monsters I'll probably just run away.
