Can People Who Write About Schizophrenia Do Some Research Please?

If I read one more story that categorizer schizophrenia as a disorder where people hear voices and make aluminum foil hats, I'm going to scream. DO FUCKING RESEARCH. Schizophrenia compromises a variety of symptoms and many people who suffer from it never hear voices but display other symptoms. The hat thing is just annoying. It is physically painful to see such a serious mental illness treated with such careless disregard and displayed the same way in every single story. In fact, I actually read a story where the MC, a professional on mental illness, waved off diagnosing a patient possibly being schizophrenic because the patient did not hear voices. NO. That makes you as a writer look very lazy at research because five minutes of research reveals that a common myth of this illness is that all those who suffer from it hear voices. This is worse if your MC is actually supposed to be knowledgeable about the topic because obviously not knowing about the illness makes your pro look like a novice. Research, people.
