When Do You Write Best?

"They" say that most writing comes from emotion. Whether that emotion is happy or sad, "they" never say. Just that it comes from emotion.

I do believe that the best writing is fueled by emotion. You can tell when a writer really feels something or when the writing is just bland. There are obvious differences.

Back when I was an angsty teen, all of my stories were fueled by my angsty emotions and it was obvious what I was feeling. Now, I live a very blessed life and am thoroughly happy 99% of the time, and I definitely think that shows in my writing.

Personally, I think I write better when I'm happy than when I'm sad. When I'm upset, I just can't even think well enough to write and am much better off just binge eating. But, I do know a ton of people who write better when they're upset or have more passion for their writing when they're going through tough things. Everyone is different.

So, how does what "they" say compare to you? Does your writing come from emotion? Do you write better when you're happy, sad or feeling nothing at all?
