FanFiction Isn't Activism

And I'm sick of people saying it is or it should be. No, it's not. Fanfiction isn't here to better represent the POC characters a lot of canon doesn't represent well. Fanfiction isn't here to help the gay rights movement (slashers, you need to stop with the delusions of grandeur). Fanfiction isn't here to make women look better. Fanfiction is here because people are showing their love for the source material in the way they can. Fanfiction isn't here to make everyone else happy; it's here for the person doing it who was nice enough to share it. If you have a problem with the canon, suck it up and go to the canon writers rather than using race, sexuality, or gender to bully fanfiction writers sometimes to the point of tears. Fanfiction isn't activism. People who write it and say it is are wrong. Policing fandom isn't cool, and policing fandoms you aren't even a part of is pretentious bullshit. Leave fanfiction writers alone because we don't write for you in the first place, thank you. We write for ourselves.
